His journey in IT
I’m 26 years old, and my passion for technology and IT has been with me for as long as I can remember. After completing my studies, I decided to turn this passion into a career, taking a specialised IT course and starting a professional path that allowed me to develop skills in programming, help desk support and network management. Today, at Silea, I can put the know-how I have gained over the years into practice while continuing to develop my skills and contribute to the growth of the company’s IT infrastructure.
I work as an IT Technician, managing the company’s IT infrastructure across the board: from user support and workstation configuration to the maintenance of servers, networks and hardware and software devices used both in the offices and in production. I also work on Time and Methods Analysis, with the aim of identifying opportunities to optimise IT and operational processes.
Technology and responsibility
One of the aspects I enjoy most about working at Silea is being able to see the direct impact of my work. When I work on the network infrastructure, servers or a work process, I can see the results directly in the day-to-day operations and in the way my colleagues work.
My goal is to ensure that the IT infrastructure remains efficient, secure and operational, minimising downtime and ensuring business continuity. Data security, system stability, network optimisation and the integration of new digital solutions are therefore some of the key aspects of my role.
In this context, responsibility and continuous improvement are the Silea values I identify with most. In IT, being responsible means ensuring that everyone can work safely and without disruptions. At the same time, improvement means not settling for simply making things work “the way they have always been done”, but always looking for more efficient and advanced solutions.
Responsiveness, collaboration and innovation
One of the main challenges of my role is responsiveness. When a technical issue occurs, it is important to intervene quickly to prevent operational activities from coming to a halt. At the same time, you need to stay focused to identify the root cause of the problem and find the most suitable solution or alternative. To deal with these situations, I try to combine a methodical approach with lateral thinking: analysing the problem quickly, setting clear priorities and identifying the best way to get things back up and running.
Collaboration also plays an important role. As the only IT technician on site, I often turn to colleagues who previously held this role and now work in other areas of the company. Their support is particularly valuable when dealing with more complex situations. For advanced technical support, I also work with external technicians, managing requests through a ticketing system and collaborating closely to find the most effective solutions.
IT and innovation go hand in hand. I always try to bring updated tools and methodologies into the company, using data analysis, research and programming to improve processes and automate repetitive tasks.
One concrete example is a project I worked on to speed up the checking of markings. After looking into Time and Methods Analysis, I developed a Python script that automated a task that had previously been carried out manually and required a considerable amount of time. It was a rewarding project, especially because it led to a tangible improvement in day-to-day operations and allowed me to see the direct results of the solution I developed.
Growth through hands-on experience and new challenges
At Silea, I have found an environment that allows me to continue developing my skills through training and direct collaboration. The company gives me the opportunity to attend refresher courses and work independently, while also providing support and guidance from highly experienced external technicians. I find this a particularly stimulating way to learn: discussing complex topics, seeing how problems are approached and developing new skills through hands-on experience.
Looking ahead, my goal is to bring the know-how I have gained so far to Silea and further strengthen the company’s IT architecture, making it increasingly robust and modern. At the same time, I want to continue developing my IT skills and keeping up to date with new technologies.
For me, IT is not routine, but an ongoing workshop where logic is used to solve problems. Here, I have the freedom to observe processes, experiment and put new solutions into practice.
If I had to describe my journey at Silea in one phrase, it would be:
“A continuous laboratory for growth”.
